Curriculum

Infants – Active Learning
The Active Learning Series is made up of activity books for infants. There are sections to help care for the infant’s custodial and developmental care. Custodial care is the routine care an infant needs, such as being fed and changed. Developmental care does all those things as well as taking care of the baby’s needs to be held, loved and talked to; to be given things to look at and listen to; to play outside of the crib and be given help to do more things on their own. There are activities to simulate all areas of growth: cognitive, physical, emotional, and intellectual. Babies are learning from the start and our caregivers play a very important part in what they learn.

Toddlers - Active Learning
The Active Learning Series is made up of activity books for toddlers. The toddler program is a step up from the infant program focusing on more talking and more motor skills activities. The teachers will use books, puppets, and pictures to stimulate the toddler’s development. The children will be allowed more creative time and start learning colors and shapes. Toddlers are active learners and our teachers help develop the child’s love of learning.

Twos - Links to Litearcy
The Links to Litearcy curriculum allows the children to become competent, eager learners with a focus on having all the necessary tools for school. The curriculum provides many opportunities for active explorations, creating powerful and positive interactions for learning. Activities are chosen to engage children’s natural curiosity and sense of wonder in the world around them. Children are provided with meaningful concepts that are a part of their everyday lives.

Threes/Fours - A Beka
The A Beka curriculum focuses on several learning areas to develop the preschoolers love of learning. Language development and listening skills activities abound, including recognition of letters and their sounds, pictures for short vowels and consonants. Simple counting to thirty and number concepts to 15. As a child moves into the four-year old program more concepts are developed such as blending sounds and reading sentences. Also number skills are enhanced to 100, and even simple math skills. Poetry becomes part of the program where the children learn poems and fingerplays. Community helpers, learning about countries and health and safety are also integral parts of the curriculum.

VPK - A Beka
The A Beka curriculm for our VPK class builds on the foundation learned in the three and four year old classroom. Special sounds and blends (phonics) are learned to prepare the children for reading. Science is introduced including themes about plants, animals, Earth and space and health. More math skills are introduced as well: adding, telling time, using the calendar, days of the week, and money values. We introduce syllables, rhyming and sequencing skills as well. Finally, Social Studies themes are brought in such as learning about children in different countries and famous Americans. The children that graduate from our VPK program have built a solid foundation in which they will excel in Kindergarten.

Links to Literacy
A researched based, comprehensive curriculum designed to provide a strong foundation for early literacy development in preschool children. The curriculum was designed based on the idea that there are four important program pieces that link children to early literacy. They are: Goals and Objectives; Learning Environment and Materials; Teaching Strategies and Activities; and Parent Involvement. Links to Literacy prepares children for life by encouraging lifelong learning.

Art Activities
Each age group will explore different art media: painting, crayons, markers, and colored pencils. They will be able to explore all their senses while participating in art.
